Analysis: La. home to sixth-lowest gas prices in U.S.

Gas prices have fallen to their lowest level in months—averaging $3.39 per gallon of regular in the U.S., according to AAA—and Louisiana drivers are paying the sixth-lowest prices in the nation, according to an analysis by 24/7 Wall St. AAA reports the average cost for a fallon of regular gas in Louisiana is $3.21 today. A year ago, the national average was $2.80. Fuel prices have dropped by nearly one cent per gallon every day for the past four weeks, The New York Times reports. Several factors impact gas prices, depending on the state; but the main variables are gas taxes, the presence of nearby refineries, and what the people of the state can afford.
