American Printing Center will be leaving the space it has occupied in the Drusilla Shopping Center since it opened 33 years ago and is relocating to a new building one mile away at 9754 Jefferson Highway.
The print shop’s new home is a freestanding building that, until recently, housed Doyle Malone Agency. Tracey Zimmerman, who owns American Printing with her husband, Bart, says they have a purchase agreement to buy the 1,800-square-foot building for $190,000 and plan to close on the property next week.
The move was prompted by changes underway at Drusilla Shopping Center. Zimmerman says landlord Donnie Jarreau, who has been renovating the shopping center since acquiring it in early 2014, asked American Printing to relocate to another space in the development. The Zimmermans were on board with the request and were planning to move when the Doyle Malone building became available.
“We were fine with moving, but then we found a better opportunity,” Tracey Zimmerman says. “We’re the only shop that has ever been in this location so it’s kind of sad. But we’re literally just one mile down the road.”
The Zimmermans bought American Printing in 2010 from its original owners, the Ballinger family. In 2012, they acquired Kopy Kat Printing in Gonzales. The new location is scheduled to be complete in early September.
Jarreau says he is negotiating with a health club to take over the American Printing Space, as well as 3,000 square feet behind it that was previously occupied by Spanky’s. No details have been finalized.
