Baton Rouge-based health care and hospice provider Amedisys has expanded its national footprint into the New York market after buying the Visiting Nurse Association of Long Island for $4.6 million.
Founded in 1915, VNALI is one of the oldest Visiting Nurse Associations in the nation, according to a news release. The nonprofit, based in Garden City, New York, is a federally and state certified home health agency that serves more than 100 communities through Queens, Brooklyn, The Bronx and Long Island.
The nonprofit is recognized as one of the country’s top 500 health care providers and serves about 450 to 500 patients each week. It filed for bankruptcy in June 2015.
“VNALI has developed an outstanding reputation for taking care of patients for the past 100 years, and this acquisition allows us to continue that care,” Amedisys President and CEO Paul Kusserow says in a statement.
With the acquisition of VNALI, Amedisys now has access to Kings and Queens counties, among the nation’s largest Medicare populations.
“It also extends our reach in the densely populated Long Island market, where Tender Loving Care, an Amedisys company, operates facilities in Hicksville and Medford,” Kusserow says.
