Amedisys posted fourth-quarter earnings of $22.1 million, or 95 cents per share on an adjusted basis. While that’s lower than the $37.8 million the Baton Rouge-based home health provider earned in the fourth quarter of 2009, it beat the 91 cents per share earnings Wall Street analysts had expected. Amedisys had $394.3 million in revenue during the quarter, down from $405.5 million at the end of 2009. But for the year, the company had revenue of $1.6 billion, up from $1.5 billion in 2009. Earnings were $112.6 million, or $4.02 per basic share, down from $135.8 million or $4.99 per basic share in 2009. However, the number of outstanding shares increased from 27.2 million in 2009 to 28 million in 2010. Amedisys is predicting 2011 revenue of between $1.6 billion to $1.65 billion, or $3 to $3.30 a share. Shares of Amedisys were down about $1.50, or 4%, in early trading, at about $36.50.
