Amedisys, a Baton Rouge-based home health and hospice company, on Tuesday finalized a previously announced $28 million acquisition of Massachusetts-based Associated Home Care.

“This is our first acquisition of a private-duty company and is an important step in realizing our strategy of expanding our capabilities across the home health continuum,” says Amedisys President and CEO Paul Kusserow in a news release. “By coming together, the two organizations will benefit from one another’s expertise, resources, and best practices. The result will be even better care and service to our patients—both within Massachusetts and eventually, in many of the communities Amedisys serves across the country.”

Founded in 1991, Associated Home Care cares for more than 5,000 seniors each day and has more than 1,500 employees with nine branch offices located in Massachusetts, the release says. The company generates about $40 million in revenue annually.

Amedisys was founded in 1982 and is partnered with more than 2,200 hospitals and 61,900 physicians nationwide. It has more than 13,000 employees in 411 care centers across 34 states, the release says.
