What they do: All Star Automotive Group has 13 locations, mostly in the greater Baton Rouge area, with one in Alexandria. Chevrolet, Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, Ford, Lincoln, Hyundai, Kia, Nissan, Toyota, Scion, Isuzu and Volvo branded vehicles are sold under the All Star name.
What went right: Not long ago, the average age of vehicles American drove was at an all-time high, says All Star Chairman, President and CEO Matt McKay. The recession was over, but people still didn’t feel secure enough to sign on the dotted line and commit to making car payments again. “We’ve had a big pent-up demand for replacement of older cars,” he says. But now the national economy is improving, and McKay says the enthusiasm surrounding the local industrial sector seems to be lifting the confidence of Capital Region consumers, even those who don’t work at the plants. “All you have to do is read the headlines,” he says, referring to the flurry of recent project announcements. McKay says the sales pace of the first six months of 2013 is ahead of the same period last year; continuing at the current rate, the company would do about $570 million this year in sales.
