John Steitz, who took over as president and COO of Baton Rouge-based Albemarle in March, has left the company to lead Avantor Performance Materials as president and CEO. Steitz had been with Albemarle since July 2000, serving in a number of lead administrative roles for the specialty chemical maker before being elected president and COO in late February. An Albemarle spokesperson declined to elaborate on Steitz’s departure. Based in Center Valley, Pa., Avantor is a global manufacturer and supplier of high-performance chemicals for a number of industries and uses. Steitz will work from the company’s headquarters and will oversee all operations in four business areas, including laboratory products, pharmaceuticals, electronic materials and diagnostics.
