With Albemarle’s announcement today that it has completed its $6.2 billion cash and stock acquisition of New Jersey-based Rockwood Holdings Inc., the Baton Rouge-based company is now among the world’s largest specialty chemical makers producing lithium, catalysts, bromine and surface treatment chemicals.
“Today is a great day for Albemarle as we welcome our new employees and join forces to create a premier specialty chemicals company,” Albemarle President and CEO Luke Kissam says in a press release. “Our combined world-class team, expanded customer reach and increased diversity across end markets, technologies and geographies positions Albemarle to drive long-term growth and produce great results for our employees, customers, shareholders and the communities in which we operate. We look forward to the future.”
Under the terms of the merger, as first announced in July, Rockwood has become a wholly owned subsidiary of Albemarle. Rockwood shares no longer will be traded and the company will be delisted from the New York Stock Exchange.
