Doster Construction Company, an Alabama-based construction management firm, announced today it has been tapped as a subcontractor for LSU’s Nicholson Gateway project.
Doster Construction says its work on the project will include building three student housing structures. Combined, the buildings will have some 349 units with 811 beds, retail space and a university recreation center, Doster Construction says in a news release.
Approved by the LSU Board of Supervisors in 2013, the Nicholson Gateway project aims to reinvigorate a 28-acre stretch of Nicholson Drive from Skip Bertman Drive to West Chimes Street. Plans call for student housing, green spaces, walking paths and 30,000 to 50,000 square feet of new retail space.
The LSU Property Foundation, which is leading the charge on the Nicholson Gateway, announced back in February that it had named Georgia-based RISE Real Estate as the preferred development team for the project. The partnership of Brailsford & Dunlavey/CSRS is serving as the project’s development adviser, and The Lemoine Co. is the general contractor.
The project formally broke ground in November, says Sara Whittaker, an LSU Foundation spokeswoman. The new residence halls in the development are expected to be finished sometime in fall 2018, she says.
Based in Birmingham, Alabama, Doster Construction company offers general contracting, construction management and design build services for multifamily, health care, commercial and industrial facilities. The company says in a news release it was founded in 1969 and consistently ranks as one of the nation’s top 400 contractors in Engineering News Record.
