Baton Rouge Metro Airport has purchased a 10,000-square-foot hangar for $500,000 to establish a school for airplane mechanics. The airport bought the hangar from Metro-Ryan Aviation and plans to lease it to Baton Rouge Community College, says Jim Caldwell, an airport spokesman. BRCC plans to open an air frame and power plant mechanics (A&P) school in the hangar later this year. “There’s no A&P school in the area, but a lot of general aviation,” Caldwell says. “There are a ton of opportunities for future airplane mechanics in the region.” — Timothy Boone
