About 20 area business and education leaders are planning to visit San Diego later this month to tour three high tech charter schools. Adam Knapp, president and CEO of the Baton Rouge Area Chamber; Ed Cancienne Jr., Iberville Parish school superintendent; and representatives from the state Department of Education and LSU are scheduled to make the trip, sponsored by Advance Baton Rouge. High Tech High has operated a network of charter schools in California since 2000, specializing in technology, math, engineering and liberal arts. San Diego was selected for the two-day visit because officials want to prepare students for future high-tech jobs in Louisiana. There are also plans to set up a college prep math and science academy in St. Gabriel. Advance Baton Rouge says there are still seats on the tour, but the deadline to register is Thursday.
