Today is a big day for Apple fans across the globe: the day when the tech giant holds a noon event in San Francisco to do … well, something. Though Apple has remained tight-lipped, as usual, on the purpose of the event, the techies around the globe expect to see the release of an “iPad 3” or some kind of “iPad HD.” In the weeks since Apple announced today’s event, rumors about an updated tablet with a speedier processor, a sharper screen and an option for faster wireless broadband access have dominated tech websites and blogs. If a new iPad model is released—and if last year’s launch of the iPad 2 is any guide—it will likely go on sale in the United States next week, probably on Friday. The upgrade from the iPad 2 to the next model is expected to be less significant than the upgrade from the original iPad to the iPad 2, which added two cameras while cutting both the thickness and the weight of the device. One big unknown about today’s event, among many, is whether Apple will reveal its rumored foray into making TV sets. Some have speculated the invite—which read, “We have something you really have to see. And touch”—points in that direction. The Associated Press has the complete story here.
Today’s poll question: What features do you want from the next iPad?
