Come this fall, the west side of Tiger Stadium will have an entirely new look, LSU student newspaper The Daily Reveille reports. The LSU System Board of Supervisors’ renovation plans will replace the chain-link fence around the entrance to the west side of the stadium with a wrought iron structure, says Herb Vincent, associate vice chancellor for university relations and associate athletics director. Vincent says the chain-link fence was put up during a previous renovation and was always intended to be temporary. He says the facelift will also include what he called a “Championship Plaza,” similar to the one at Alex Box Stadium, to exhibit the history of Tiger Stadium and honor important players and teams. The project will also include areas along North Stadium Drive. The gates Tiger Band uses to enter the stadium will also be replaced, and the sidewalks along the street will be repaved. The entire renovation will cost about $8 million, Vincent says, and will be funded by the Tiger Athletic Foundation. Construction should begin this semester, and Vincent hopes the project will be completed by the start of football season. He says a feasibility study and ground tests are under way on a proposal to expand seating in Tiger Stadium around the south end zone. Get the full story here.
