Taminco Higher Amines Inc. plans to add three production units to its St. Gabriel chemical plant, a $29 million expansion that will create at least 150 construction jobs. Once the expansion opens early next year, the company will add 20 permanent jobs to its staff of 53 full-time employees. Two of the units are being relocated from Taminco’s Detroit plant, while one is a new facility. Mitch Corona, plant manager, says the expansion is a good fit because the St. Gabriel plant produces much of the raw materials needed for the new units and it’s supported by a number of technical schools. Taminco makes products used in water treatments, pharmaceuticals and paints.
