This weekend promises high-flying fun over the Capital Region as the annual 2012 Louisiana Hot Air Balloon Championship Festival takes off in Gonzales. The Lamar-Dixon Expo Center will host the festival on Friday and Saturday from 3 to 10 p.m., combining hot air balloons, aerial displays, entertainment, music, food and a children’s village. And don’t miss the nightly balloon glow, in which the tethered balloons will burn their fuel in unison, lighting up the night sky. The event is free and open to the public. However, this year, there’s also an option of purchasing a special Balloon Club ticket for $100. The ticket gets you entry into a special air-conditioned tent that’s stocked with water and healthy snacks for both days of the festival. Visit the festival’s website here for complete details; and read the new 225 Weekender e-newsletter here.
