Pages Matam—author, poet, playwright and 2014 National Poetry Slam Champion—will perform tonight at Eclectic Truth’s weekly Poetry Slam and Open Mic Night at the Firehouse Gallery inside the Arts Council of Greater Baton Rouge building, 427 Laurel St. Doors open at 7:30 p.m. Admission is $7.
Though he currently resides in the Washington, D.C., metro area, Matam is originally from Cameroon. Along with his publications and poetry awards, Matam’s website says he is also “a proud gummy bear elitist, bowtie enthusiast, professional hugger and anime fanatic.” Matam’s work has been featured in The Huffington Post and The Washington Post, among others.
