Baton Rouge Music Studios has a new home.
The musical education center moved from a small office off Bluebonnet Boulevard to a space with double the size on Burbank Drive. Now, the team can more comfortably forward its mission of empowering children.
In the current issue of 225, staff writer Matthew Sigur takes readers on a tour of the new digs.
“This new space features 12 classrooms for lessons in drums, guitar, voice, bass, brass and woodwinds,” Sigur writes. “There’s a concert venue that can seat more than 100 attendees and a set of rooms to be used for music engineering and recording.”
On Saturday, Baton Rouge Music Studios will celebrate the move with a grand opening celebration. The free party runs 5 to 10 p.m. and includes food from Taco de Paco and Cupcake Allie as well as performances from some of the student bands.
While the results of the move have yet to be seen, it’s clear that owner Doug Gay and his team are building toward something more than just an afternoon hobby for teens. The results speak for themselves: the Studios’ Young Band Nation Blues Project was invited to play at the 2015 New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival. It will be the band’s fourth appearance.
