The April issue of 225 is all about music in the Capital City.
Though some musicians choose to take their craft to Nashville or New York, the bands and artists profiled in the latest issue prove you don’t have to go out of town to find talent. And these acts are consistently drawing crowds to Baton Rouge music venues.
Among the musicians profiled is Ben Bell, a singer-songwriter who charms audiences with his folksy love songs. When he was younger, he dreamed of being a full-time musician. Now, a 46-year-old full-time reference and instruction librarian, Bell says he’s a family guy who prefers staying at home with his wife and stepchildren. Nonetheless, Bell has been prolific in the scene. Last fall he released Live at the Red Dragon, and he is hoping to collaborate with a variety of local musicians for his next album.
There’s also a profile of The Gillis Silo, a rising country act that has been featured on CMT; Ship of Fools, a jazz-pop quartet in the midst of releasing its debut single; and Grammy-nominated DJ Matt Tortorich, among others.
