When Baton Rouge Film Commission Executive Director Liza Kelso was told that the Capital City was named the best small city for moviemakers to live and work by Moviemaker Magazine, she wasn’t surprised.
“We’ve known that all the time,” she tells 225.
Last year was a great year for city-shot films such as The Maze Runner, which grossed more than $340 million worldwide. The year also saw the Nicolas Cage reboot of Left Behind and the Christian-themed hit God’s Not Dead.
This year could be even more exciting. In the current issue of 225, the magazine looks at what audiences can see on the silver screen and what’s being shot in the city this year.
Among this year’s big releases are Pitch Perfect 2, the sequel of the 2012 hit that stars Anna Kendrick, and the reboot of the Marvel franchise Fantastic Four, which stars up-and-comers Miles Teller (Whiplash) and Michael B. Jordan (Fruitvale Station).
Some projects in production are the new MTV show Scream, based on the Wes Craven film series of the same name, and Hap and Leonard, a six-episode series that will air on Sundance TV in 2016.
