Ignoring calorie counts in the name of journalism, 225 went on a quest to find Baton Rouge’s best burgers for its March cover story.
On newsstands now, the latest issue profiles 13 of our city’s favorite burgers. Reporters researched and sampled burgers topped with everything from foie gras to pork belly preserves.
The list includes the Napa Burger at Fat Cow, which is topped with sweet pears and marmalade. The restaurant’s chef, Doug Hosford, drew inspiration from his fine-dining background to create the burger, then topped it with creamy goat cheese and arugula.
Elsewhere around the city is the $55 Wall Street Burger from Restaurant IPO. The pricey option consists of a Wagyu beef patty, topped with duck confit, smoked onion jam, foie gras, wild mushrooms, Gruyere cheese, mayo made from a Merlot-truffle reduction and a sunny-side-up egg. It comes with its own small bottle of pinot noir.
For more traditional options, there are staples such as old-fashioned cheeseburger at Dearman’s, a classic soda shop in the Bocage Village Shopping Center that has shakes and malts to go along with its checkered black-and-white floors and retro red chairs and booths. Check out the complete cover story for the full list.
And be sure to enter 225’s Extreme Burger contest, which will award one lucky winner a chance to taste all 13 burgers featured in the story. The winner will be allowed to bring along a friend to try the burgers. Only one entry per person; the winner must be at least 18 years old and must reside within the 225 area code.
