A wave of new restaurants have opened in downtown Baton Rouge in recent weeks, and 225 Dine reports more are slated to join the area’s budding culinary scene in the coming months.
Magpie Cafe, The Gregory and Lava Cantina are just a few of the new additions downtown. They’ll soon be joined by Another Broken Egg and Cocha.
“This international bistro focusing on seasonal and locally sourced ingredients is tentatively slated to open in early December,” 225 Dine writes of Cocha, which will be located at 445 Sixth St. “The brainchild of chefs Saskia Spanhoff and Enrique Pinerua, Cocha’s menu of chic and fresh dishes will be complemented by original seasonal cocktails, local craft beers and an international wine list.”
Another Broken Egg’s downtown location is tentatively set to open in mid-January. Like the chain’s other two locations, the downtown restaurant will offer breakfast and brunch.
Lava Cantina opened its doors at 151 Third St. on Oct. 20, taking over the space formerly occupied by Lucy’s Retired Surfers Bar & Restaurant.
“The new downtown digs boast a renovated menu that incorporates more Creole and down-home elements into their Tex-Mex lineup, like fork-and-knife fajitas made with whole rib-eyes and chicken breasts and enchiladas made with crepes instead of corn tortillas,” 225 Dine reports.
Gourmet Southern eatery The Gregory is located inside the Watermark Hotel, which opened about two weeks ago. The hotel also will host a New York-style Jewish deli, Milford’s on Third, which plans to open by December.
