Among this weekend’s festivities is The Pelican House’s annual 3rd of July Celebration taking place on Friday. The event includes a $5 American dinner plate, drink specials, a beer pong contest and hot dog eating contest. Local band The Helldorados will perform at 8:30 p.m. There is no cover.
Also on Friday, Calandro’s Supermarket will host its second annual #ATasteOfIndependence tasting event from 3 to 8 p.m. at its location at 12732 Perkins Road. Participating vendors include Cafeciteaux Coffee Roasters, Truly Scrumptious Candies and Confections, and Cupcake Allie.
Perhaps the biggest holiday event this weekend is the USS Kidd’s 4th of July Spectacular. The party kicks off at 2 p.m. Saturday. Food vendors include City Pork, Zibitz Extreme Waffles and The Jambalaya Shoppe. The event also includes a pie baking contest, to be judged at 3 p.m. at the USS Kidd museum.
