The brick-and-mortar location of Curbside Burgers, which got its start in Baton Rouge as a popular food truck, will hold a soft opening in Mid City today with a limited menu at 4158 Government St., next to Calandro’s.
“This neighborhood has given me so much,” owner and chef Nick Hufft tells 225 Dine about the support he has received since he first began pursuing the project in late 2014. “It’s a blessing. I mean, it sounds cliche, but it’s the American dream.”
Prior to today’s soft opening, Hufft gave 225 Dine a sneak peek of his new 2,900-square-foot restaurant.
“Walking into the eatery, guests are greeted with the dining space’s centerpiece: Half of a full-sized food truck that artist Benjamin Bullins salvaged and dismantled to transform into a seating area,” 225 Dine reports. “Other parts of the truck are weaved into the restaurant’s modern but cozy decor, including metal used to create some of the restaurant’s stools.”
There’s also an outside deck area that includes a stage for weekend music, two bocce ball courts and seating under shady trees. The menu includes a mix of new items and longtime Curbside favorites such as the KGB burger, which is topped with a fried egg and praline bacon.
“The KGB you can’t really touch,” Hufft says. “People would riot with pitchforks, and that burger doesn’t really get any better.”
The Classic burger is returning to the menu, as is the Brian burger, but with a minor facelift—it will still have pork belly preserves and fried onion strings, but it will now have Gorgonzola instead of cheddar cheese. Hufft says there will be around four other burgers on the menu that customers might remember from Curbside’s days as a food truck.
Guests can also expect some new and healthier items, such as a lamb burger, a veggie burger and a turkey burger. Hufft also plans to offer monthly burgers and milkshake specials. The eatery will also offer alcoholic and non-alcoholic milkshakes.
