If you’re shopping for in-season produce this month, new crops of fresh fruits and vegetables have arrived at the Red Stick Farmers Market.

As 225 Dine reports, a number of fresh, seasonal produce—from leafy greens to Louisiana citrus—will make an appearance at the market this December. Cabbage and broccoli are at their freshest this month, and the first strawberries of the season will appear at the end of December.

Other fresh seasonal options currently at the farmers market include leafy greens like collards, Swiss chard, and spinach; root vegetables such as beets, carrots, sweet potatoes and turnips; Louisiana citrus like navels, Louisiana sweets, grapefruits and kumquats; and pecans.

Sugar cane syrup will also make an appearance just in time for the holidays. And if you’re looking for a natural way to decorate, holiday greenery from the Greenhand Nursery is available.

The farmers market also will serve as the venue for several events this month. A holiday celebration on Saturday will feature homemade goods by local artisans at the Main Street Market and the Arts Market, face painting and entertainment by John Gray Jazz Trio and the Baton Rouge High School Choir.

The Baton Rouge Arts Market will continue in conjunction with the farmers market every Saturday in December leading up to Christmas. Also, guest chefs will create recipes with seasonal, local ingredients at 10 a.m. every Saturday.
