Get your costumes and decorations ready for another raucous carnival season. While the official date for Mardi Gras is Feb. 17, 225 reports some Baton Rouge krewes will get things started a little early.
First, the bad news: the Krewe of Jupiter and Juno parade, originally set to roll Saturday through downtown Baton Rouge, has been canceled this year. That means the first parade to roll through the Capital City this season will be the Krewe of Artemis on Friday, Feb. 6. The all-female parade will begin its ride through downtown at 7 p.m. On Saturday, Feb. 7, Krewe Mystique de la Capital and Krewe of Orion begin rolling downtown at 2 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. respectively.
The Mardi Gras spirit gets even more serious the following weekend with the annual Spanish Town Parade. This year’s theme for the flamingo-laden festivities is St. Valentine’s Day Masquerade. The downtown parade starts at noon on Saturday, Feb. 14. Read the full story.
