‘225’ blogger makes final 30 in MLB Fan Cave competition

Jay Ducote is in Phoenix today making his pitch to Major League Baseball, and hopes that he will be selected to take up residency in the MLB Fan Cave in New York City this summer. The Baton Rouge radio host, culinary personality and 225 blogger recently received enough online votes to make the final cut of 30 finalists from an earlier round of 52 baseball fans from across the United States. He’s the lone Louisiana representative in the competition. “We’ll be loading up on a bus and heading over to Chase Field, where the [Arizona] Diamondbacks play, to do the auditions,” Ducote told Daily Report earlier today. “I’ll have to do a 60-second elevator pitch to tell them why I should be in the Fan Cave, there will be more interviews tomorrow, and hopefully I will know Thursday if I make it.” Ducote, who arrived in Phoenix Monday and will return Thursday to Baton Rouge, says about 8 to 10 of the 30 finalists will be chosen to live in the Fan Cave this summer. “The idea is to live there, watch every baseball game of the season possible, and create online content to build a buzz about MLB,” Ducote says. “It’s right up my alley: kind of what I do for a living anyway.” Ducote is providing updates on his trip and sharing photos via his Twitter account, which you can check out here. —Steve Sanoski
