$17 million allocated to troubled La. homeowners

The federal Department of Housing and Urban Development is allocating just under $17 million to help Louisiana homeowners facing foreclosure. Participants have to be involuntarily unemployed or underemployed due to economic conditions or a medical condition. Those declared eligible can get a no-interest, forgivable loans that cover past-due payments and a portion of the monthly mortgage payment for up to 24 months, or up to $50,000, whichever comes first. Congress has provided $1 billion for the program nationwide, part of an effort to stem the tide of foreclosures. Applicants have until July 22 to apply, for more information, go to FindEHLP.org.
