Construction on a $10 million railroad facility and industrial park is under way in Port Allen. Officials from USA Rail Terminals, the project developer, were joined by Baton Rouge Area Chamber officials today to break ground on the project. When complete, the facility will be the first of its kind in the Baton Rouge area and will have the capacity to store in excess of 1,200 rail cars.
“A rail terminal of this magnitude will be a huge asset to the Baton Rouge area,” says BRAC President and CEO Adam Knapp in a prepared statement. “BRAC is pleased to see USA Rail Terminals creating infrastructure with the flexibility to accommodate all types of rail cargo. This is a double win for the region as it represents new job creation and a facility that will spur further economic development.”
BRAC estimates the project, which is located just west of La. 1 between La. 415 and La. 986, will add 43 new direct jobs to the area. A timeline on the project’s completion was not released by officials today.
