Citing plans to expand into new technological frontiers, officials with Louisiana Business Inc. announced Wednesday that 10/12 magazine will cease operations at the end of the year. The final print edition will be shipped in November, and the website and weekly e-newsletter will continue to publish through the end of the year. The quarterly regional business publication, born four years ago in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, remains profitable for parent company LBI, but executives say the need to focus resources on new technologies and LBI’s core Baton Rouge-based publications made the decision “unfortunate, but the wise one to make.” “We got high marks on the quality of the magazine,” says Publisher Rolfe McCollister. “Yet a regional [magazine] covering a large corridor—stretching from Slidell to Lake Charles and including New Orleans, Baton Rouge and Lafayette—is a logistical challenge for a company with offices only in Baton Rouge. We decided it is better to stop publishing than to sacrifice quality.” The company will focus its efforts instead on the development of new online and digital distribution opportunities, including two new e-newsletters in the Baton Rouge market. In addition, its flagship publication, Business Report, will celebrate its 30th anniversary next fall, and LBI is rolling out new websites over the next 120 days for that magazine as well as for 225 and inRegister.
