In January, Gloria Moncada became the first-ever female manager of ExxonMobil’s refinery.
The firsts ended there, however, as women are no longer a rarity among the company’s top ranks in Louisiana, as 10/12 Industry Report details in a new feature from the latest quarterly issue.
In fact, four of ExxonMobil’s five major facilities currently are managed by women.
That’s not lost on Moncada.
“I’m keenly appreciative of all who have worked to move the industry forward,” says Moncada, who joins Jennifer Dunphy, Shonta’ Greenwood, and Angela Zeringue as part of the pool of high-powered women in charge at ExxonMobil.
A native of Philadelphia, Moncada, was appointed to her post in January. As such, she oversees the nation’s fourth largest refinery, with a workforce of more than 3,700 employees and contractors. She returns to the Baton Rouge Refinery after beginning her career there in 1992. Along the way, she served in leadership roles at Exxon sites in Texas and California.
Like Moncada, Zeringue got her start at ExxonMobil’s Baton Rouge refinery. A Louisiana native, she began working with the company in polyethylene manufacturing at the Baton Rouge Plastics Plant as a summer intern in 1987, proving her chops in product development, customer service and operations management before moving to ExxonMobil’s Baton Rouge Chemical Plant in 2000. Zeringue now serves as the plant manager of ExxonMobil’s Baton Rouge Polyolefins Plant.
Dunphy climbed the ranks at multiple ExxonMobil locations before taking on the role of plant manager of the Baton Rouge Plastics Plant. She joined ExxonMobil in 1993 at the Beaumont Polyethylene Plant. And as for Greenwood, she was appointed in January to serve as the US Mid-Atlantic/Southeast area manager for ExxonMobil Pipeline Co. Her career with ExxonMobil started in 2001 at the Baytown Refinery—Greenwood was playing professional women’s basketball at the same. She’s been in Baton Rouge for the last two year and a half years, and now oversee the Baton Rouge, Memphis and Nashville terminal.
