I am excited about the comments in this story. Dr. Martin sounds like a good fit for LSU. My alma mater continues to make me proud and has emerged as a national leader in hurricane and disaster management and accounting in addition to the standards (chemical and petroleum engineering, coastal issues, and Southern literature and politics).

Cazayoux will be restrained until the election this fall and then lookout. He is a tax-and-spend liberal of the worst kind. Michael Jackson should run as an Independent. The Capital City needs to have an African-American representing her diverse people.

As a higher ed guardian, I am appalled and dismayed at Gov. Jindal's silence. Using education as a hostage is cowardly.

There is no competition here. This is all good news for the Capital Region and is the only way that the area will grow. Continuing to diversify our industries is vitally important. In addition, creating a reason for tourists or conferences to come will help. The new ideas for the Old State Capitol Museum are a good start. We need an auto racing complex in the area and I don't think that the State Capital Raceway has enough space, which is too bad. Loar's quote about enough for everybody needs to be the mantra.

I found this story to be lacking in background information so I did a little digging. The American Association of University Professors issues an annul report. I pulled the information for the public institutions in LA and found a very intereting statistic. The salaries at LSU and UL-Lafayette are extremely close. I think, while we were distracted by Katrina, Gov. Blanco was doing some home cooking. Did anyone else see that allowing the Gov's husband to continue to work at an institution that his wife had direct control of was a huge problem?
On LSU salaries average more than national, less than peers'

The pork must go especially when they are proposing cutting higher education. Our priorities must be on education, a sure way to end the poverty problem in LA.

Overall I found this article to be comforting. It seems we have some business leaders (Thomas, Moles, Stewart) who are truly concerned about growing Baton Rouge. As an alumni of LSU, I was happy to see that they are open to hiring my fellow alums but hope that the Legislature provides the funds needed for the Flagship to attain its rightful place among the nation's elite colleges. More faculty and students create a need for space and all of that costs money. I find it interesting that Beriwal chooses to focus on the topic of Java, which can be easily learned with a good book and a little time. That is not something that should necessarily be taught by a university. Thanks to Antares, IEM and TraceSecurity for making Baton Rouge a better place. Maybe in a few year, you will be listed on the Fortune 1000 list along with Shaw.

Jindal continues to disappoint with his inactive leadership style. Do we as citizens have the memory capacity to vote the bums out in three years?
