The Louisiana-based startup that created the MultiNix nursing tool recently signed a manufacturing and distribution agreement with Medline Industries, the largest privately held manufacturer and distributor of medical supplies in the U.S.
RNvention co-founders Wayne and Dawn Nix, former nurses from the Lafayette area, have spent the past three years developing the MultiNix tool to assist in beside patient care. The multi-purpose tool, with at least 15 different features, is designed to save time for nurses who use several different tools to perform their daily jobs.
The startup is a portfolio company of the Entrepreneurial Accelerator Program based in Shreveport, which announced the Medline agreement with RNvention on Wednesday.
“Wayne and Dawn’s product is the first of many we hope to see as they assist others in healthcare move their ideas and innovations to commercialization,” said EAP Executive Director Dave Smith in a statement. “RNvention’s first product is a tool that could become a staple in bedside care due to its time-saving and cost-cutting potential for healthcare providers and operators.”
Medline Industries, based in Illinois, manufactures and distributes healthcare supplies across the globe. The company, boasting more than $10.2 billion in annual sales, ranks No. 32 on Forbes’ 2018 list of largest private companies in America.
The MultiNix tool has been developed through dozens of iterations based on feedback from nurses, according to the EAP. The invention and its founders also won a Pitch BR competition last April, taking home $1,000.
“The final design assists in everything we do around a patient—from opening packages and clamping lines to splitting pills,” Wayne Nix said in a statement. “Health systems are going to realize new efficiencies that contribute to the bottom line and provide better care to the patients.”
