Letters to the Editor

Submission Guidelines

  • Length: Letters should be no more than 250 words.
  • Author information: Submissions must include the writer’s full name, city of residence, and a daytime phone number for verification. Only the name and city will be published.
  • Editing: Letters may be edited for clarity, brevity, and style, but we will preserve the writer’s intent.
  • Publication is not guaranteed. We reserve the right to decline letters based on relevance, redundancy, or editorial standards.

Content Standards

  • Relevance: Letters should address business, economic, or policy issues impacting the Capital Region business community or respond to content published in Business Report.
  • Professionalism: No personal attacks, profanity, or defamatory statements will be accepted. Letters should contribute constructively to the dialogue.
  • No “open letters”: Business Report does not accept open letters for publication. Letters should be addressed to the editor and reflect the views of the individual writer, not a coordinated appeal directed at a third party.
  • No Promotions: Letters may not promote a business, event, or commercial service. Opinion-based advocacy is allowed, but advertising content will not be considered.
  • Exclusive to Business Report: We do not accept form letters or submissions sent to multiple media outlets. Letters should be specifically written for Baton Rouge Business Report and relevant to our readership and content.
  • Fact-Based Discussion: Opinion is welcome, but letters should be factually accurate. If citing statistics or studies, provide a source.

Submission Limits

  • One letter per writer per month to allow for a range of voices.
  • No duplicate submissions or previously published content.

News Tips & Story Ideas

Submission Guidelines

  • Specificity: Tell us what happened, who’s involved, and why it matters to the Capital Region business community. A few concrete lines are more useful than a general pitch.
  • Timeliness: The sooner you share a tip, the more useful it is to our editors.
  • Verification: Let us know how you know, and whether there’s someone available to speak with us on the record.
  • Supporting materials: If you have a press release or photos to share, send them along — high-resolution JPEGs are preferred for images.

Content Standards

  • Relevance: Tips should be about business and economic developments, deals, expansions and closures, leadership changes, people or companies worth profiling, new ventures, real estate and development, workforce and talent, innovation, public policy, quality-of-life and community issues, emerging trends—and other ideas or developments you think should be on our radar. Don’t worry about whether something fits neatly into a particular category. If you think it matters to the people shaping the Capital Region and Louisiana’s economy, we want to hear about it.
  • Confidentiality: If you request confidentiality, we will honor that request. We do ask that you provide contact information so an editor can reach you to verify details, ask follow-up questions or discuss sourcing and attribution. Information you share confidentially will not be attributed to you or published in a way that identifies you without your permission.
  • Publication is not guaranteed: We appreciate every tip we receive, though not all will result in a story. Our editors review each submission for newsworthiness and relevance to our audience.
