Visitors and employees will be required to wear face coverings inside city-parish buildings in Baton Rouge as coronavirus cases once again spike across Louisiana, WBRZ-TV reports.

The mayor’s office today confirmed the return of the policy, which affects all indoor city-parish locations including BREC’s park facilities.

Baton Rouge General also issued a statement today urging patients to refrain from visiting the emergency room for non-life-threatening issues. Many patients visiting the ER have mild cold or flu-like symptoms and simply need a COVID-19 test, the hospital’s statement says. This increases ER wait times and affects the ability of staff to care for those in critical condition.

The announcements come at the same time as a dozen Office of Motor Vehicle locations across the state were forced to close due to COVID-19 cases.
