When Hurricane Ida blasted ashore, its 150 mile per hour winds not only laid waste to southeast Louisiana but to the nation’s fossil fuel infrastructure.
Nearly 78% of residents in East Baton Rouge, Livingston and Ascension parishes remain without power this afternoon, and officials with Entergy and Cleco—the two major utilities that service the area—say they cannot yet estimate how long it will be before electricity is restored.
Though Hurricane Ida’s exact path is still somewhat uncertain, the Capital Region appears to be in the crosshairs of what will be a major hurricane when it makes landfall late this weekend, and that means the entire area will experience extended power outages.
