Smashburger has closed its Corporate Boulevard location after three-and-a-half years in business, management confirmed this morning.
District Manager Benton Smith says the 2,780-square-foot space in the shopping center at 7474 Corporate Blvd. was too big for Smashburger.
“In fast-casual restaurants in general, the square footage is getting smaller,” Smith explains. “We didn’t need all that extra space.”
Another business is moving into the location and will finish the chain’s five-year lease, says Smith, who declines to name the business but says the space will be “a better fit for them.”
The space along the busy thoroughfare is situated directly across from Towne Center. It was the first Baton Rouge location for the Denver-based burger chain that has some 370 restaurants across 37 states and nine countries.
But this isn’t the end for Smashburger in Baton Rouge. The chain also has a location in the Mall of Louisiana and Smith says it plans to open another Baton Rouge restaurant at one of three identified properties in the near future, though a lease hasn’t been signed yet.
