Real Estate Weekly readers think an LSU teaching hospital should be built on the big tract of undeveloped land recently purchased by Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center. Forty percent of respondents think OLOL should locate the teaching hospital on the land off of Interstate 10 between Essen Lane and Bluebonnet Boulevard, while 30% say a children’s hospital should be built on the site. Thirteen percent would like to see a mixed-use medical development go up there, while 6% think Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center should be expanded onto the property and 11% are unsure. Nearly 150 people participated in the survey. OLOL paid $15.25 million for the 58-acre site in a deal that closed just before the end of the year; hospital officials say they have no plans for the property at the time.
