Vanishing coast: The global sea level is expected to rise by a meter or more by the year 2100, ahead of previous forecasts, according to the BBC. Scientists at the international climate change conference in Copenhagen say the figures were boosted from projections of 59 centimeters because of changes in the polar ice sheets. Konrad Steffen, a professor at the University of Colorado, says the figures are a “major change” and “a call for action.” To see what rising water levels would mean to south Louisiana, take a look at the projections from University of Arizona researchers here.
Rubbing elbows with the stars: Four south Louisiana business leaders played in the recent AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am golf tournament, an event that brought in stars such as Bill Murray, Peyton Manning and Justin Timberlake. Jim Bernhard, chairman and CEO of the Shaw Group, participated in the event, along with George Bevan, an executive vice president with Shaw, and Rusty Brown, another Shaw executive. Lafayette oilman Mike Moreno also participated in the event, and was paired up with pro golfer and LSU grad David Toms. None of the players made the final cut.
