The Willowbrook subdivision is getting a new retail center. Materials were delivered this morning and work should begin next week on a 21,000-square-foot neighborhood center at 18100 Jefferson Highway, near Hoo Shoo Too Road, says Kelly Sanders, project manager for Kimble Development. They are aiming for a February or March opening date.
According to permits filed with the parish, it will cost about $2.4 million for Kimble Development to build the commercial center with a sewer treatment plant and parking. Sanders says they are developing the space to hold nine tenants, but that could change depending on how much space each business needs.
Kimble Development bought the property in 2014 from a New Orleans group of investors. The property has been zoned for commercial use since the subdivision was built, Sanders says. The Planning Commission on Feb. 23 approved the plans for the facility.
Grey Mullins, the leasing agent for the property, says they have numerous interested retailers they are currently negotiating with and hope to make an announcement soon on tenants.
They are looking to lease the space, not sell it, Sanders says. Donald F. Dawson, of Baton Rouge, is the contractor, according to the permit application.
