CenturyLink CEO and President Glen E. Post III has the distinction of being the highest paid executive in Louisiana, earning $13.6 million in 2016, according to a new survey by The Associated Press and Equilar, an executive data firm.

The survey considered only publicly traded companies with more than $1 billion in revenue that filed their proxy statements with federal regulators between Jan. 1 and May 1.

It includes CEOs who have been in place for at least two years. Not every state had a publicly traded company headquartered there that was large enough to be included. The typical CEO in the Standard & Poor’s 500 index made $11.5 million last year.

He’s held various management roles in the company and has directed numerous acquisitions and divestitures during his tenure at the company. In October, CenturyLink acquired Colorado-based Level 3 Communications in a $34 billion deal. The Wall Street Journal  last year profiled Post’s efforts to transform the company into one of the biggest internet providers in the world.
