LSU testing flexible football season ticket package to boost attendance

    In an effort to tap into a broader fan base and boost football game attendance, LSU is testing out a more flexible season ticket package.
    “Across the country, there’s a decline [in game attendance], and we want to get ahead of that,” says Brian Broussard, LSU’s assistant athletics director in charge of ticket operations.
    There will only be 150 Football Flex Passes available for the pilot program, which Broussard says has been available to recent LSU graduates for “the past couple years.”
    For $360, fans receive seven vouchers for tickets to any home game, with additional vouchers available for $40 each. Fans choose the matchup and quantity of vouchers they want to use, and then the tickets are delivered digitally to their iPhones or Androids.
    However, for high demand games against Alabama and Georgia, a maximum of two vouchers can be used by each pass holder.
    Fans will be able to redeem their seats starting Aug. 20. If the program goes well, Broussard says the ticket office might increase the number of passes.
    Average game attendance at LSU has reportedly fallen from 102,004 in 2015 to 98,308 last season. Still, Broussard notes LSU has over 70,000 season ticket holders.
    “We’re always looking for ways to get that fan who might not live around here,” Broussard says. “We’re trying to identify packages that might be enticing to them.”
