LSU Health Baton Rouge announced today that it will open its second urgent care clinic in the city on Monday, Dec. 15, at the LSU Health Mid City Clinic, 1401 N. Foster Drive.
“We want to make sure everyone in the community has timely and affordable access to care. The LSU Health Baton Rouge urgent care clinic on Airline Highway has made a big difference in this effort in just 18 months, and we think we can replicate that success with this new location,” says LSU Health Baton Rouge Administrator Laura Davis in a prepared statement.
The Mid City clinic will be open seven days a week, from 3 to 11 p.m. Monday through Friday, and from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Patients will not need an appointment, similar to the existing LSU Health Baton Rouge urgent care clinic in north Baton Rouge.
Urgent care centers are staffed and equipped to treat a wide variety of minor conditions and injuries, including eye or ear infections, sprains or strains, possible broken bones, flu or fever, or minor burns. Such common ailments often unnecessarily drive up emergency room visits, and can be more conveniently and quickly treated in an urgent care setting.
“Urgent care clinics can meet the needs of at least 70% of the patients who currently rely on the emergency room for minor illnesses or their primary care. Delays in medical care compromise health and often lead to higher costs,” says Davis. “Our goal is to serve the everyday health needs of the community in a familiar and convenient location, in the right setting, at the right time.”
