Louisiana is ranked in the middle of the pack for job creation among all states in a new Gallup report, which is based on its daily surveying of full- and part-time workers across the country throughout 2014.
Louisiana is ranked No. 29 in the report, which is based on survey respondents reports on whether their employer is hiring and expanding the size of its workforce, not making changes, or letting people go and reducing its workforce. Based on those responses, each state is given an Job Creation Index score and ranked accordingly.
North Dakota is ranked No. 1 in the report, with an index score of 36, followed by Texas, Nebraska and Wisconsin, all of which had an index score of 31. With a score of 21, five states tied for having the worst job creation last year: Kentucky, Vermont, Rhode Island, Alabama and New York.
Louisiana’s index score is 24, tying the state with North Carolina for a No. 29 ranking in the country. Gallup says 2,803 Louisianans participated in its surveying last year for the report. Of those, 39% said their employer is hiring and expanding workforce, while 40% said employment levels are staying about the same and 15% reported a decline in hiring.
Gallup notes that “all 50 states now have positive net hiring scores, and all but three—West Virginia, Alaska and New Mexico—have markedly improved on this measure since these ratings hit their low point in 2009.” See the full report and rankings.
