Editor’s Note: While City Bar continues to be listed on the ABC agenda, an owner, following publication of the story, produced documentation indicating the delinquent sales tax bill was satisfied on Aug. 17. Consequently the reference to the establishment has been removed.
Downtown nightclub owner John Delgado will go before the East Baton Rouge Parish Alcoholic Beverage Control Board on Wednesday, along with the owners of 40 other establishments who are delinquent on their 2018 sales taxes.
Along with the delinquent taxes owed by Delgado’s Third Street bars, Huey’s and 1913, the board agenda also lists other citations issued to 1913, including allowing unlicensed persons to perform services, sales of alcohol to persons under 21, failure to pay for an occupational license and unfair trade practices—defined as “distribution of alcoholic beverages through wholesalers only.”
This is 1913’s second offense, according to the agenda, for allowing an unlicensed person to perform services.
Delgado obtained an occupational license last week, after Daily Report learned 1913 was operating without an occupational license. Unclear is if the former Metro Councilman remains delinquent on his sales taxes, or how he received a license to serve alcohol without the occupational license.
Delgado couldn’t be reached prior to this afternoon’s deadline.
Delgado’s Third Street bars were among 12 businesses called before the city-parish ABC board last September for delinquent sales taxes. Delgado estimated at the time that he owed about $30,000 combined for his three establishments, including the since-closed The Draft House, blaming sluggish summer sales for getting behind on his taxes.
