Cowboy Chicken to open first BR restaurant in Siegen Place; Firehouse Subs to open second

Developer Kevin Nguyen is beginning construction on the second phase of Siegen Place, his retail center at 6555 Siegen Lane, and has confirmed leases with two new tenants.

One, Firehouse Subs, will be opening its second location in the local market. The Jacksonville, Florida-based fast casual chain opened a restaurant on Corporate Boulevard nearly three years ago. For Cowboy Chicken, the Siegen Place location will be its first in the area. The 30-year-old Dallas-based chain specializes in dishes prepared with rotisserie-baked chicken.

The second phase of Siegen Place will add 17,000 square feet to the existing 13,000-square-foot strip, which is home to Mattress Firm, Battery Plus and Mooyah Burgers. The addition will be on a vacant parcel next to the original building.

“It’s a great location,” Nguyen says. “Everything is growing, growing, growing out there.”

Nguyen is also developing a subdivision near LSU. On Thursday, he filed an application with the Planning Commission for Lake Villas, which will include 191 lots and be located at the corner of Ben Hur and Burbank. Homes will be the range of between 1,800- and 2,100-square feet with three or four bedrooms and will be priced around $200,000, he says.

While students will be the target market for the development, Nguyen also hopes to attract young professionals who work downtown. The Planning Commission will vote on approval of the subdivision at its April 20 meeting.
