The Capital Area Transit System will not renew its contract with Dallas-based MV Transportation when the two-year program management agreement the two entities signed in 2013 runs out at the end of the year.
MV Transportation signed a two-year, $1.39 million contract to be CATS’ program manager and help the Baton Rouge transportation system with a plethora of duties, including implementing a new hub and spoke hub route system, redesigning the CATS website and managing the bus shelters.
“CATS and MV have worked for two years to enhance transit service in Baton Rouge,” CATS spokeswoman Amie McNaylor says. “At this time, with the additional resources that CATS has added inside the agency, we feel that we no longer need the full-time services that MV offers.”
While CATS won’t be seeking a new program manager, McNaylor says, the agency “may solicit additional support from sub-contractors in specialized areas once our relationship with MV ends in December 2015.”
MV Transportation was one of four companies that responded to a request for proposals issued by CATS in 2013 to serve the agency’s program manager. MV Transportation and Baton Rouge-based Reliant Transportation were the two finalists. MV Transportation scored higher in most of the categories in the CATS Proposal Evaluation Committee’s score report and was offered the contract.
MV Transportation, which began in California in 1975 as California MediVan, manages more than 130 operations in 28 states and countries such as Brazil, Saudi Arabia and Qatar.
