Feb. 23-24: The Southern University Ag Center hosts its two-day “Growing Farm Profits” workshop from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Feb. 23 and from 8 a.m. to noon on Feb. 24. The two-day intensive training is geared toward diversifying horticultural producers by helping farmers make smarter decisions to improve their profits. The training is free of charge, but pre-registration is required. Lunch will be provided, and each participant will receive farmer-friendly resource tools. Feb. 28: The Baton Rouge Area Association of Black Journalists hosts its third annual “Secrets to Accessing the Media” workshop from 8:30 a.m. to noon at the offices of The Advocate, 7290 Bluebonnet Blvd. The workshop is open to nonprofit organizations, community groups, churches, small business owners or anyone else who is interested in gaining a better understanding of how the media works. The cost is $10 per person. Media guides will also be available for $15 which will include a list of current contacts at various media outlets.
