Baton Rouge Health District to break ground on Dijon Extension Project

After years of planning, the Baton Rouge Health District will break ground on the Dijon Extension Project next Tuesday, Nov. 13, the organization announced today.

The extension, extending Dijon Drive from Essen Lane to Bluebonnet Boulevard, creates access to Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center’s planned Children’s Hospital, delineating the northern boundary of the Baton Rouge Health District, and helping to alleviate congestion along Perkins Road and other thoroughfares in the area.

The long awaited, more than $23 million extension will be completed in two phases, with the first phase beginning at Essen Lane, following Ward’s Creek, and ending just beyond the new freestanding Our Lady of the Lake Children’s Hospital. Phase two of the project, included in the MovEBR proposition, will extend the road along Ward’s Creek past the Baton Rouge General Medical Center to Bluebonnet Boulevard.

Mayor Sharon Weston Broome, city-parish and state officials, local businesses and health district representatives will be at the groundbreaking ceremony next week, which starts at 11 a.m. near Essen Lane and Margaret Ann Avenue.
