Atlanta-based Your Pie to open first Louisiana restaurant in Baton Rouge
Your Pie, a fast-casual brick oven pizza concept based out of Atlanta, is expanding into Louisiana and is opening its first restaurant in Baton Rouge.
Your Pie is similar to Subway and Chipotle’s build-your-own-meal concept, the company says. Your Pie uses hand-tossed dough, homemade sauces and salad dressings. It also has vegan, vegetarian and gluten-free pizzas in addition to traditional pizza pies.
Ricky Reaves, of Houma, has recently signed on as Your Pie’s first Louisiana franchisee. Reaves says he optimistically plans to open three Your Pie restaurants in Baton Rouge within the next 24 months, and is currently scouting eight to 10 locations for his first restaurant.
Sites that rank high on his list are located on Corporate Boulevard past the Chase Bank heading toward College Drive; at the planned Nicholson Gateway development; and on Perkins Road near Bluebonnet Boulevard.
Reaves, whose family has been in the franchise business since 1998, says he’s always wanted to enter the Baton Rouge market.
“I’ve never had the right concept to go in (to Baton Rouge), but I think this is the right one,” he says.
Reaves describes Your Pie as having more of a traditional pizza product that’s more in line with how pizza pies are made in Italy. It has less sauce, more cheese and better crust, he says.
“It’s definitely not mass market,” says Reaves, who was introduced to the pizza chain through research he conducted online. He was searching for new ideas and concepts. Reaves says he flew to Atlanta to try the product and was blown away.
“I went in blind not knowing if I would even like the product,” he says. “I’m not gong to open something if I don’t enjoy the product.”
Reaves says he would have loved to have opened Louisiana’s first Your Pie restaurant in his hometown of Houma, but the downturn of the oil and gas industry made doing so difficult.
“With our economy being so heavily depended on oilfield service, it just wasn’t a good opportunity,” he says.
