A Louisiana-developed flood technology is going global

    The Water Institute has announced a new partnership with ICEYE, one of the world’s leading Earth observation companies, to advance and scale FloodID, a flood intelligence and decision-support technology developed in Louisiana. 

    Originally created to help Louisiana communities make better decisions before, during and after flood events, FloodID combines predictive modeling with operational tools to provide emergency managers, infrastructure operators, government agencies, industry users and communities with timely, localized information about flood risks. 

    The technology is already used in emergency operations centers across multiple hurricane-prone states. A free 2026 hurricane-season pilot, supported by Amazon and Amazon Web Services technology, has enrolled more than 200 federal, state and local government users. 

    Through the partnership, ICEYE’s persistent satellite-based Earth observation capabilities will complement FloodID’s predictive intelligence, helping decision-makers better understand where and when flooding may happen next and monitor conditions as they unfold. With global reach and operational expertise across more than 30 countries, ICEYE will help accelerate FloodID’s deployment across the U.S. and beyond. 

    Core members of the team that developed, deployed and operated FloodID have joined ICEYE, while existing partners will receive a seamless transition. The transition also marks the first major milestone of Louisiana’s Water Innovation Studio, created through a partnership between The Water Institute and Louisiana Innovation to move promising water technologies from research toward broader deployment and global impact.
